WELCOME TO AICARR INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS
Italy imports more than 85% of its energy needs. It should adopt a feasible and effective energy plan as soon as possibile. The scientific and technical world has developed solutions that allow similar performance in terms of comfort, using much less energy in the various applications, from heating to cooling, from illuminating to air renewal. This is possible by using more sophisticated equipment, “intelligent” control systems, passive and active waste reduction.
Whereas these innovations are frequent in new buildings, they are applied only marginally on existing buildings and use of renewables is very low. In Italy about 20 million dwellings are equipped with low quality heating (and cooling) systems (with low converting efficiency) and with poor (when existing) thermal insulation. Similar remarks are valid for many service industry buildings, where obsolete control systems give rise to very high energy bills accepted by the account departments as unavoidable events just like the weather. Therefore it is of paramount importance a thorough study of the energy needs in the built environment.
The Tivoli International Conference (Tivoli is a wonderful tourist resort not far from Rome) will gather experts, engineers, architects, manufacturers to weigh up the technological developments in these years which are able to allow strong reductions in the energy needs in different applications on existing buildings.
The main themes are sustainability, energy efficiency, district heating and cooling, technological innovation on equipment and systems, sustainable and not sustainable architecture, energy certification and renewable energies. Plenary sessions will be followed by intense technical sessions where engineers, architects and manufacturers can debate about systems, equipment and innovative components. Manufacturers can illustrate to a qualified audience (surely not distracted by other events!) their innovative equipment. Finally collateral events deserve a special announcement on the day before the Conference (October 7th). In the morning a very interesting ASHRAE short course on commercial desiccant systems, then in the afternoon the first ASHRAE Club meeting and an AICARR ASHRAE IIR and REHVA Seminar on the improvement of building energy efficiency. The Seminar is free for all the registered participants.
