The growing request of air conditioning, during the Summer season , is consequently increasing the energy consumption and therefore the load on the electric network. This growth is caused by the special climate conditions present in the urban air in the hot months with the adverse local micro climate, so called urban heat islands (UHI). This book collects the studies on the actions aiming to limit the energy requirements, by using restricted practical methods, allowing the decrease of costs in the bills and/or the cooling loads, by:
- an appropriate choice for the insulating layers and the glazing;
- the use gas driven air-conditioning and appropriate cool storage systems to reduce energy demand;
- the use of more efficient evaporative cooling systems and cooling units; and
- refurbishment of existing buildings.
