The need to deal with the economical aspects of the design is an element that differentiates today's engineering practice today from that of the past.

This book is intended to meet the demand, more and more common, to support the thermal engineering design of the building and HVAC plant, in its traditional approach, with a good economic analysis as well.

After a brief but precise explaination of the methods of economic analysis based on cash flow and its indices, some relevant multi-criteria analysis tools are presented that can find applications in many aspects of non-DCF assessments from the field of engineering. It is then presented the method for calculating the overall cost of the optimal level of energy performance according to the UNI EN 15459 "Energy performance of buildings - Economic evaluation procedure for energy systems in buildings".

The text if fully supported by several examples and an entire chpater is devoted to case studies related to the analysis of investment spending alternatives for the redevelopment  for energy efficiency and components replacement, topics of increasing importance in the fields of interest of AiCARR.
