BUILDING DECARBONIZATION AND FUTURE CLIMATE: A MOVING TARGET LIVE & ON-LINE
January 16th, 2023 - 2,30 p.m. (CET)
Politecnico di Milano, Campus Bovisa Building 25 - Department of Energy - Sala Consiglio Via Lambruschini, 4, Milan - Italy
The word "decarbonization" is now a focal point in the consideration of possible energy scenarios and strategies. The attention given to the goals of energy efficiency, the large use of renewable sources, and Zero Energy Building, has led to a central focus on the decarbonization options and processes.
The expression "decarbonization" today refers to all measures through which our society reduces its carbon footprint, primarily its greenhouse gas emissions, in order to limit, in a Life Cycle Analysis perspective, its impact on the climate. The built environment and the HVAC sector have a big role to play. The timely and important topic of reducing carbon emissions from buildings implies to discuss how to change the design, construction, ownership, and operation of facilities. The integrated and holistic approach to built environment decarbonization should analyze and combine all the aspects exploring how both new and existing buildings should be configured to use energy with due consideration to the GHG emissions implications.
The scope of this seminar is to present information on the different approaches and to promote discussion and idea exchanges in a worldwide perspective, examining the following aspects:
- operational and embodied emissions of CO2 and GHG;
- European decarbonization policies and Directives;
- American positions;
- decarbonization of buildings and circular economy.
