According to IIR, the RACHP (Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Heat Pump) sector is responsible of about 7.8% of global greenhouse gas emissions of which about 37% are direct emissions related to the release of refrigerants in the atmosphere and 63% are indirect emissions related to the energy consumption of the RACHP systems. The above figures indicate that the approach towards decarbonization of the RACHP sector should address both the direct global warming potential of the refrigerants and the efficiency of the systems in a holistic way. Several international directives and rules have imposed stringent reductions of global warming gases emissions, including traditional HFCs and an extensive R&D activity is ongoing.

This webinar will give insights on the international net-zero pathway focusing on its implication on RACHP. The current status of net zero developments and related regulations will be summarized, and specific issues related to the role of RACHP on global warming will be presented.

Having in mind the major target of the reduction of the refrigerants direct impact on RACHP, the seek for low GWP refrigerant options and the related impact on systems efficiency will be outlined according to the extensive work carried out by NIST in the recent years.

The regulation status and perspectives in the US will be introduced.

Finally, focus will be given on the ongoing revision process of the European F-gas Directive.

The first two papers will be presented in English
