EN: Fuel Cells: technology and opportunities of applications

IT: Celle a combustibile

The use of hydrogen as fuel source of the future and the most direct application (i.e. the fuel cell) are currently under discussion due to pollution. All industrialized Countries have clearly stated the purpose to head towards the so called “hydrogen economy”, encompassing the hydrogen and electricity as clean energy carriers, in a long term vision.

This book is addressed to both basic and expert readers and clearly describes the fuel cells technology in the development of the hydrogen as an energy carrier.

Chapter 1 provides general information with a brief summary on the history of technology and the basic energy concepts.

Chapter 2 describes all technical aspects of the hydrogen.

Chapter 3 introduces the fuel cell technology by describing the physical science basics, the source of the electric tension and the performance factors.

Chapters 4-5 provides a detailed overview on the various technologies, by analyzing the performance of released technologies and those to be tested.

Chapter 6 focuses on the use of fuel cells in buildings.

Appendix relates some sizing calculations of a steady state fuel cells generation system.
