Several international directives and rules have imposed stringent reductions of global warming gases emissions, including traditional HFCs. In this framework, the European Commission (EC) is promoting an intensive research activity for the use of hydrocarbon refrigerants in several refrigeration and air conditioning applications. The large diffusion of flammable refrigerants will require a huge effort from the research, standards development and design point of views in the refrigeration and air-conditioning industry with emphasis on room air conditioners that represent the largest market potential.
This virtual meeting aims at presenting the main results of the research program LIFE ZeroGWP, carried out within the framework of the LIFE – Climate Change Mitigation Programme of the European Union.
The design and manufacturing strategies for the development of safe and energy efficient compact air conditioning units operating with propane will be analyzed both from the theoretical thermodynamic and technological perspective including practical experiences from extensive field tests. The outcomes of a detailed Life Cycle Assessment study will assess the actual reduction of the environmental impact of the analyzed propane air conditioning units and their sustainability in a European scenario.
